hoichess software package provides xboard compatible chess engine to play chess with, you can install in your Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install hoichess
hoichess is installed in your system.
Make ensure the hoichess package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep hoichess *
You will get with hoichess package name, version, architecture and description in a table
